Trump criticizes US Senate over ‘meaningless’ Iran war powers vote

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump criticized a Senate vote on the War Powers Act, calling it “poorly timed and meaningless.”

The statement came after the US Senate approved a joint resolution aimed at limiting military action against Iran. The measure passed with a 50-48 vote, with senators supporting efforts to restrict military action.

According to reports, the House of Representatives had already approved the same resolution earlier this month, moving the proposal another step forward.

The vote took place despite Republicans holding a majority in the Senate. The resolution reflects ongoing debates among lawmakers about military powers and the role of Congress in decisions involving the use of force.

The development also highlights continuing discussions in Washington about US policy toward Iran and congressional oversight of military actions.

In a post on social media, Trump said the Senate vote sent the wrong message to Iran at a time when, according to him, Tehran was “under pressure and prepared to make significant concessions.”

“So, I have Iran on the ropes, ready to go down for the fall, willing to give us practically anything, and for the first time in decades, respecting the hell out of the United States and its President, ME, and the U.S. Senate decides to have a poorly timed and meaningless War Powers Act Vote, telling the Number One Sponser of Terror in the World that the United States doesn’t like what I am doing to them, and I must stop, and by so doing has provided aid and comfort the Enemy,” he posted.

Trump also criticized the four Republican senators who supported the measure, calling them “losers” along with “Dumocrats.”

“These Senators have just made my job more difficult, but I will get it done, one way or the other, because I always get it done! he vowed”.
