Paris Restricts Public Alcohol Consumption as Heat Wave Strains Health Services

Authorities in Paris have introduced temporary restrictions on the sale and public consumption of alcohol as the French capital endures a record-breaking heat wave. The measures are intended to reduce heat-related medical emergencies and ease pressure on hospitals treating people suffering from dehydration and other heat-related illnesses.
Under the new rules, consuming alcohol in public spaces has been prohibited from noon on Friday until the ongoing heat wave alert is lifted. The restriction does not apply to outdoor seating areas at bars and restaurants, where customers may continue to consume alcoholic beverages.
The emergency measures come as temperatures across parts of Western Europe have reached record highs this week. Weather forecasts indicate that conditions are expected to moderate over the weekend, bringing some relief after days of extreme heat.
