Cuba Calls US Sanctions a ‘Crime Against Humanity’

01 July, 2026 19:55

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has strongly criticized the United States’ sanctions on Cuba, describing them as a “crime against humanity.” He said the economic, trade, and financial restrictions have directly harmed the welfare and future of the Cuban people.

Speaking at a news conference in Havana on Tuesday, Rodríguez accused Washington of disrupting a United Nations process aimed at pressuring the US to lift its long-standing embargo on Cuba. He claimed the US is actively working to influence UN officials and diplomats from other countries to prevent a scheduled UN General Assembly discussion on the issue.

The Cuban foreign minister emphasized that Cuba poses no threat to the United States and argued that the sanctions themselves are the real threat to human security and livelihoods in his country. He reiterated calls for the embargo to be ended, saying it continues to isolate and damage the Cuban population.
