Munir Akram Says Regional Tensions Could Complicate Iran Negotiations

Former Pakistan ambassador to the United Nations, Munir Akram, said that there is anger within Iranian society following the killing of its leadership, adding that such developments are increasing pressure on Iran’s decision-making circles. He made these remarks during a televised program, discussing regional diplomatic and security dynamics.
Akram said that Iran’s leadership has shown a preference for resolving issues through negotiations, but warned that tougher domestic or external pressures could make diplomatic engagement more difficult. He added that Iran’s negotiating team is currently operating under significant public and political pressure, which could influence its stance in talks.
The former envoy emphasized that Pakistan’s efforts at mediation should continue, arguing that prolonged conflict would be detrimental to the entire region. He said war would not benefit any party except, in his view, Israel, and stressed that diplomatic initiatives remain essential to preventing further escalation.
