Afghan People Endure Worst-Ever Crisis Under Taliban Rule
Afghanistan is facing one of its worst humanitarian crises, with growing concerns over the country’s economic situation and the hardships faced by its people under Taliban rule.
According to the Afghan newspaper Hasht-e Subh, the Taliban government’s policies have worsened living conditions, leaving millions of Afghans struggling with poverty, unemployment, and a lack of basic services.
The report said the Taliban have failed to provide basic human rights and essential facilities to the Afghan people, while facing criticism over their governance.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), millions of Afghan families continue to face severe humanitarian challenges. In a post on X, OCHA said that despite receiving little international attention, people in Afghanistan remain in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
Hasht-e Subh reported that a severe shortage of jobs has left many Afghan families unable to meet their daily needs, with a large part of the population facing food insecurity.
An Afghan citizen said the shortage of clean drinking water has made daily life even more difficult for people across the country.
Former Afghan presidential spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said Afghanistan has become one of the world’s poorest countries under the Taliban government. He also claimed that around 29 million Afghans are living below the poverty line.
OCHA Director Edem Wosornu said that a lack of resources and restrictions on women have further increased the difficulties faced by the Afghan people.
