Iran Condemns US Strikes, Alleges Violations of UN Charter and Ceasefire MoU

09 July, 2026 16:26

Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday strongly condemned recent US missile strikes on civilian infrastructure, describing the attacks as “gross war crimes” and accusing Washington of violating international law. According to the ministry, the strikes targeted multiple locations, including a bridge on a strategic international rail corridor in northwestern Iran, and breached the United Nations Charter as well as the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that ended hostilities between the two countries.

In a statement, the ministry said the attacks over the past 48 hours were carried out under what it called the false pretext of responding to alleged incidents involving several vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. It asserted that the strikes violated Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and constituted a breach of key provisions of the ceasefire MoU, while reaffirming Iran’s determination to defend its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security.

The statement further accused the United States of using the alleged maritime incidents as a justification for military action against Iran. The ministry maintained that the attacks represented a serious escalation and called them a flagrant violation of international commitments. The statement provided Iran’s official position, while no immediate response from US authorities was included in the information available.
