Iranian Foreign Minister Arrives in Oman for Strait of Hormuz Talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Muscat on Saturday at the head of a diplomatic delegation for talks with Omani officials on the administration of the Strait of Hormuz, regional developments, and bilateral relations. He was welcomed by Omani officials as the two countries continued consultations on maritime cooperation and regional security.

According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, the visit follows a series of consultations held over the past two months with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz. He said the strategic waterway was a key subject covered in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that brought an end to the recent conflict, outlining measures to restore normal operations in the area.

Baghaei said the agreement assigns Iran a clear role in helping establish normal operational arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, including the provision of maritime services for commercial shipping. He emphasized that Tehran remains committed to fulfilling its obligations under the MoU.

Under the framework of the agreement, Iran and Oman have pledged to closely coordinate the implementation of maritime arrangements in the strategic waterway. The discussions in Muscat are expected to focus on practical steps for enhancing navigation and ensuring the smooth flow of commercial shipping through the Strait.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes, serving as a vital corridor for global energy exports. The latest round of talks reflects ongoing efforts by Tehran and Muscat to strengthen bilateral cooperation while addressing regional security and maritime stability.
