Iran’s Supreme Leader Thanks Funeral Crowds, Vows Retaliation for Slain Predecessor

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mujtaba Khamenei, has expressed gratitude for the massive public turnout at the funeral ceremonies for his father and predecessor, Martyred Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, describing the gatherings as “astonishing, enemy-breaking and historic.” In a message released after the ceremonies, he praised millions of mourners who participated across cities in Iran and Iraq.
The leader specifically thanked people in Tehran, Qom, Mashhad, Najaf and Karbala for attending the funeral processions, saying the large crowds reflected continued support for the late leader’s legacy. He characterized the participation as a significant demonstration of public unity and resilience during a period of national mourning.
In his statement, Ayatollah Mujtaba Khamenei also pledged retaliation for the Martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others martyred during the recent conflicts. Referring to those responsible as “criminal and disgraced murderers,” he said that avenging the slain leader and other victims was certain.
Addressing his late father directly, the new supreme leader vowed to preserve and continue his predecessor’s path. He said the nation would remain committed to the principles established under Martyred Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s leadership, emphasizing perseverance through hardships and trust in God’s promises.
The message comes as Iran enters a new phase of leadership following the Martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The funeral ceremonies drew large crowds in both Iran and Iraq, marking one of the most significant public events in the region in recent years, while the leadership’s pledge of retaliation is expected to draw continued international attention.
