Iran Army Reaffirms Readiness to Safeguard Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Republic of Iran Army has declared that the country’s armed forces are fully prepared to defend Iran’s rights and support the implementation of Tehran’s proposed arrangements for navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Army spokesperson Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia made the remarks on state television on Sunday amid renewed tensions in the strategic waterway.

Akraminia claimed the United States is seeking to formalize a shipping route south of the Strait of Hormuz that he said is inconsistent with the provisions of the Tehran-Washington Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). He added that, under the agreement, responsibility for navigational arrangements in the strait rests with Iran, and that Tehran is working with Oman to establish joint shipping arrangements.

The army spokesperson said Iran’s armed forces are responsible for safeguarding the security of the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring the safe transit of oil tankers. He emphasized that the military remains committed to enforcing navigation arrangements that are consistent with the MoU and aligned with Iran’s stated position on the strategically important waterway.
