US Hits 140 Iranian Military Targets Over Strait of Hormuz Tensions
Washington: The US Central Command has claimed that it has hit about 140 Iranian military targets in the third phase of attacks against Iran over the past three days. According to the US military, these operations were carried out in response to attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
A statement issued by CENTCOM said that during the operation, warplanes, drones and US ships flying from land and sea bases were used modern and highly accurate weapons.
According to the statement, the attacks targeted Iranian missile and drone installations, naval assets, weapons depots, communications centers and coastal surveillance systems.
The US military says that a total of more than 300 targets have been hit in these three-night operations. According to CENTCOM, the aim of these attacks is to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial vessels and international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Central Command claimed that despite the tension, commercial shipping continues to move through the Strait of Hormuz and global energy supplies have not been completely disrupted.
US forces have aided in the safe passage of more than 800 commercial ships and nearly 400 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of May this year, according to CENTCOM,
World’s most important shipping lanes, Strait of Hormuz, through which a large amount of global oil passes. Due to this reason, the increasing military tension in this area could have a profound impact on global energy markets, oil prices and international trade.
Iran is awaiting a formal response to the US attacks, while the situation in the region remains tense and the international community is urging diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions.
