IRGC Says Two Oil Tankers Ignored Warnings, Stopped After Hormuz Explosions

20 July, 2026 12:51

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that two oil tankers were damaged by explosions while travelling through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, the IRGC said the tankers were using what it described as an unsafe route after coming under pressure from the US military.

Iran claimed the vessels ignored warnings from Iranian forces before the incident, forcing both ships to stop.

The IRGC did not provide the names of the vessels, the cause of the explosions, or any information about possible casualties.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it received a report of a vessel on fire about eight nautical miles off Kumzar, Oman.

Iran also warned that the Strait of Hormuz would remain unsafe for the transport of oil, gas and chemical products as long as US military operations continue in the region.
