US Officials Warn Military Shortages Could Limit Expanded Conflict with Iran

The United States is facing growing concerns over its ability to expand military operations against Iran, with Pentagon officials reportedly warning that depleted weapons stockpiles, operational losses, and limited force capacity have left Washington ill-prepared for a broader conflict. According to The American mainstream media, a US official familiar with internal discussions said the Pentagon is planning for the possibility of a wider military campaign but is increasingly constrained by shortages of air defense interceptors, long-range munitions, and deployment resources.

The official warned that the US military does not have sufficient resources to safely sustain prolonged operations, adding that the White House may not fully understand the extent of the logistical challenges. Although the Pentagon has increased the number of military aircraft deployed to the region, battle damage and equipment shortages have reportedly limited Washington’s ability to reinforce its forces. Defense analysts also expressed skepticism about expanding the conflict, with Seth Jones of the Center for Strategic and International Studies cautioning against any ground operation inside Iran or on islands in the Strait of Hormuz.

The warnings come as US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed additional American casualties following Iranian retaliatory strikes, including the deaths of US service members in Jordan and Iraq. In response, President Donald Trump announced that US forces had carried out another round of strikes against Iran, further raising concerns about the risk of a broader regional confrontation amid questions over the US military’s operational readiness.
