Saudi-Led Coalition Strikes Houthi Militia Military Positions in Yemen’s Hodeidah

The Saudi-led coalition forces have confirmed targeting Houthi militia military positions in Yemen’s coastal city of Hodeidah, amid growing tensions over threats to commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

According to the Saudi-led coalition, operations were conducted against military targets linked to the Houthi militia in Hodeidah Governorate. Officials stated that the strikes were carried out to counter threats to maritime security and protect commercial shipping routes in the Red Sea.

The coalition clarified that Hodeidah Port was not targeted and that all Yemeni ports remain open for maritime traffic. Officials warned that further action could be taken if the Houthi militia continues activities threatening sea routes and international trade.

Earlier, the Houthi militia-affiliated media outlet Al Masirah claimed that Saudi fighter jets carried out airstrikes on areas in western Yemen, including Hodeidah city and Kamaran Island.

The media outlet also claimed that telecommunications facilities in Hodeidah were targeted during the attacks. However, these claims have not been confirmed by the Saudi-led coalition.

The latest strikes come at a time of increasing tensions between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthi militia in Yemen.

A day earlier, the Houthi militia-linked Ansar Allah movement claimed that it had targeted two Saudi oil tankers, alleging that the vessels had violated a maritime blockade announced by the group.

The Houthi militia recently announced a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, with its spokesperson claiming that the move was a response to restrictions imposed on Yemen and the closure of Sanaa International Airport.

The Saudi-led coalition maintains that its actions in Yemen are aimed at protecting maritime security, safeguarding commercial shipping, and maintaining regional stability.

The situation remains tense as the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthi militia continue to face off over military operations, maritime restrictions, and security concerns affecting one of the world’s most important trade routes in the Red Sea.
