US State Department Raises Concerns Over Taliban’s Failure to Fight Terrorism

25 July, 2026 17:25

The US State Department has criticized the Afghan Taliban regime over its failure to fulfill commitments to fight terrorism. According to an official email received by Voice of America, the department said the Taliban has repeatedly failed to meet its counterterrorism promises.

The US State Department said extremist groups have turned Afghanistan into a safe haven and a base for regional attacks. It added that the Taliban’s failure to tackle terrorism has increased violence and harmed peace and stability in the region.

The statement comes amid concerns from Russia and the United Nations about the presence and activities of terrorist groups, including Daesh and Al-Qaeda, in Afghanistan.

Russian officials have also warned that Daesh-Khorasan is using Afghanistan as a base to expand its activities into Central Asia. The UN has repeatedly raised concerns about terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). A UN Security Council report issued on February 4, 2026, said TTP militants remain active in Afghanistan and continue to operate in a favorable environment.
