Singapore Investigates Massive Attack Over Palestinian Flag Display at Concert

01 August, 2026 18:30

Massive Attack is under investigation by Singaporean authorities after members of the band displayed a Palestinian flag and expressed support for Palestine during a concert in Singapore. In a joint statement issued on Friday, police and the country’s media regulator said the investigation concerns alleged “actions in support of a political cause” during Wednesday’s performance. Authorities also said two members of the band have been barred from re-entering Singapore and that the group will no longer be permitted to perform there.

According to the authorities, one of the musicians also shouted “Free Palestine” during the concert, which they said may constitute a breach of the event’s licensing conditions. Videos shared online showed two band members holding a Palestinian flag on stage to sustained applause from the audience. Singapore’s media authority said it would not approve any future performance applications from Massive Attack following the incident.

Singapore’s Home Affairs Ministry had previously advised the public in 2023 against publicly displaying symbols related to the Israel-Gaza conflict, citing heightened sensitivities surrounding the issue. The incident comes amid broader international debates over restrictions on pro-Palestinian expression. Since the war in Gaza began in October 2023, several countries have imposed varying restrictions on demonstrations and activism related to the conflict, while governments have said such measures are intended to maintain public order and comply with domestic laws.
