Trump Says US, Israel Delayed Planned Iran Strike to Pursue Diplomatic Deal

US President Donald Trump has said that the United States and Israel have postponed a planned military strike on Iran to provide an opportunity for a rapid diplomatic agreement, while warning that military action remains an option if negotiations fail.

In a statement shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said the decision to delay the attack was made after requests from Iran and several other Middle Eastern countries. He added that Israel supported the move, expressing hope that a diplomatic solution could still be reached.

Trump said the United States remains fully prepared to respond with force if talks do not produce results. He accused Iran of failing to honour previous commitments and warned that Washington would not hesitate to take action should negotiations collapse.

Iran, however, issued a strong warning against any further military action by the United States or Israel. Iranian officials said Tehran would respond firmly and proportionately to any new aggression, stressing that any attack would have serious consequences for the region.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi conveyed the country’s position during separate telephone conversations with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. According to Iranian media, the discussions focused on regional security and the potential consequences of further escalation.

Meanwhile, Noor News, a media outlet affiliated with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, warned that if the United States targets Iran’s energy infrastructure, Tehran could retaliate by striking energy facilities in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Israel.

The latest developments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with diplomatic efforts continuing alongside military warnings from both sides. While Trump said he remains hopeful that negotiators can reach an agreement, the exchange of threats underscores the fragile security situation in the Middle East and the risk of further escalation if talks fail.
