Pezeshkian Condemns US Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima, Nagasaki

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has condemned the United States’ atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, describing them as among the greatest crimes against humanity and warning that the mindset behind such attacks remains present in Washington. The United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945, respectively, marking the first and only use of nuclear weapons in warfare.

In a post on X marking the anniversary, Pezeshkian said those who reject the horrors of the bombings must also condemn what he called the same mentality in Washington that now threatens nations and civilian infrastructure. Published estimates indicate that around 140,000 people died in Hiroshima and approximately 74,000 in Nagasaki, including victims who later succumbed to radiation exposure and other effects of the attacks.

Pezeshkian’s remarks came in reference to repeated threats by US President Donald Trump against Iran, including warnings that the country could be pushed “back to the Stone Age” and that an entire civilization could be destroyed as a result of US military action. The Iranian president ended his message with a call of “Never again,” invoking the enduring global debate over the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons and attacks on civilian populations.
