Pezeshkian Meets Iran’s Leader as He Enters Third Year in Office

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has met with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei as he begins his third year in office, with the talks focusing on the country’s economic and military affairs. The meeting addressed people’s livelihood needs, the latest conditions and future prospects of the US-Israeli war against Iran, military developments, and measures to secure resources and manage the rial, foreign currency and energy expenditures.

The talks come amid concerns over possible further escalation between Iran and the United States after Washington reportedly failed to achieve its declared objectives in the conflict. The United States and Israel launched their second round of attacks against Iran on February 28, killing former Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei along with several senior commanders and officials, according to the report.

Pezeshkian was elected president on July 6, 2024, after winning the July 5 presidential runoff. He was formally endorsed by Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on July 28 and sworn in before parliament on July 30. His election followed the death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.
