Five Injured in Shooting at Virginia State University

Five people have been injured, including one critically, in a shooting at Virginia State University (VSU) in the United States, authorities said. Police responded to reports of gunfire outside a residence hall at around 1:28 a.m. local time on Saturday. All five victims were found with gunshot wounds and taken to nearby hospitals, with four suffering injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Local police said they believe multiple shooters were involved, although no arrests had been made. Chesterfield County Police are leading the investigation with assistance from campus police and other law enforcement agencies. One of the victims was a VSU student, while another was reportedly under 18.

The university temporarily placed the campus under lockdown following the shooting, but the measure was later lifted. A significant law enforcement presence remained on campus as the investigation continued. The incident occurred as students were returning to campus, with residence halls having opened on Friday ahead of the new academic term, which was scheduled to begin Monday.
