Iraqi Resistance Leader Condemns US Economic Dominance Over Iraq

The secretary general of Iraq’s Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada resistance group, Abu Ala al-Walai, has condemned what he described as direct US financial and economic dominance over Iraq’s revenues and assets, calling for greater economic sovereignty and independence. In a post on X, Walai said American control over Iraq’s financial resources was among the most significant manifestations of what he called the country’s loss of sovereignty.
Walai accused the United States of controlling Iraq’s revenues and assets and exploiting the country’s natural resources, saying the Iraqi people would not accept what he described as the aggressive plundering of their national wealth. He emphasized that Iraq’s natural resources should be recognized as a sovereign right belonging to the Iraqi nation.
The Iraqi resistance leader called for diversification of Iraq’s export markets and banking relationships, as well as practical steps to end Washington’s financial and economic leverage over the country. He said Iraq needed an economy capable of independently controlling its decision-making, wealth and trade routes.
