Ship Traffic Falls Further in Strait of Hormuz, Only 7 Vessels Pass
SINGAPORE: Ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has declined further, with only seven commercial vessels passing through the key waterway on Thursday.
According to data from ship-tracking company Kpler, the number was half the figure recorded a day earlier. Four vessels entered the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, while three ships left the waterway.
The report said none of the vessels were large crude oil tankers or LNG carriers.
Before the war, the Strait of Hormuz handled around one-fifth of the world’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, making it one of the most important energy routes globally.
Concerns over the safety of commercial shipping remain high as peace talks between the United States and Iran remain stalled.
The continued drop in ship traffic could further affect the movement of energy supplies through the strategically important waterway.
