Iran’s Saghar Moradi Wins Gold at Taiyuan World Taekwondo Open

Iranian taekwondo athlete Saghar Moradi captured the women’s under-67kg title at the Taiyuan 2026 World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championship in China, completing a flawless campaign without losing a single round. Moradi defeated Greece’s Styliani Marentaki 2-0 in the final on Sunday to secure the gold medal after six consecutive victories.

Moradi opened her campaign with a 2-0 win over Russia’s Darya Mesli before defeating China’s Jiang Jianni, the previous edition’s runner-up and a 2025 Bangkok Grand Prix silver medalist. She then overcame Chloe Chua of the United States and Croatia’s Doris Pole by identical 2-0 margins. In the semifinals, Moradi faced a tougher challenge against Serbia’s Aleksandra Perisic, a Paris 2024 Olympic silver medalist, but once again prevailed in straight rounds.

Iran also claimed another podium finish, with Hana Zarrin Kamar winning silver in the women’s over-73kg category. The results gave Iran’s women’s team one gold and one silver medal across the five weight categories contested at the championship, which was held in Taiyuan from August 28 to 30 as part of the World Taekwondo international calendar.
