Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman Calls for Major Islamabad March

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman has strongly criticized the government’s petroleum levy, saying the public has described it as a “tribute tax.” Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, he said the party’s protest movement against rising prices and economic pressure was gaining momentum.

Hafiz Naeem said public participation in the sit-ins was increasing and that protests were currently continuing at 36 locations across the country. He said Jamaat-e-Islami would continue its campaign until the government addressed the people’s concerns and provided relief from the growing economic burden.

The JI chief announced that his party would hold a major march in Islamabad on September 20, urging people to participate in large numbers. He said the march would further intensify pressure on the government to respond to public demands.
