Oman and Iran Call for De-escalation and Regional Dialogue

19 September, 2026 18:30

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi held a telephone conversation with his German counterpart to discuss the regional situation and matters of mutual interest. According to Oman’s Foreign Ministry, the two sides discussed maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, as well as efforts to reduce regional tensions. Oman stressed that de-escalation would contribute to peace and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that sustainable peace and security in the Middle East cannot be imposed by any outside power. He said lasting peace can only be achieved through negotiations, confidence-building and mutual respect, stressing that the military presence of foreign powers cannot establish lasting peace in the region.

Araghchi called on regional countries to engage directly in dialogue over their security and future. He also stressed the growing need for multilateralism, saying that ordinary people ultimately pay the heaviest price for conflicts through the loss of lives and damage to their future.
