Nine Passengers Killed as Bus Catches Fire on India’s Yamuna Expressway

Nine passengers, including a woman, were killed after a bus caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway in India’s Uttar Pradesh state.

According to Indian media reports, the bus was travelling from Noida towards Uttar Pradesh when it suddenly caught fire while moving along the expressway in Greater Noida.

Around 35 people were reportedly on board when the fire broke out. The flames quickly engulfed the entire bus, leaving passengers with little time to escape.

Police officials said initial investigations indicated that the fire may have started following an explosion in the bus’s air-conditioning system.

The blast reportedly caused engine oil to catch fire, allowing the flames to spread rapidly throughout the vehicle.

Most passengers were asleep when the fire broke out. Those who became aware of the blaze attempted to escape through the doors and windows.

Despite efforts to flee the burning vehicle, nine passengers, including a woman, died from severe burns.

Rescue teams, police officials and ambulances reached the scene after receiving information about the incident.

The rescue personnel extinguished the fire and shifted the injured passengers and bodies to nearby hospitals.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and establish the circumstances surrounding the deadly accident.
