Lavrov, Araghchi Discuss Iran Crisis and Russia-Iran Cooperation in New York

NEW YORK: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a meeting on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The two foreign ministers discussed current regional and international developments, with particular focus on the situation surrounding Iran.

During the meeting, the ministers stressed that they saw no alternative to a diplomatic settlement of the crisis involving Iran.

They described the actions of the United States and Israel as unlawful and maintained that diplomatic engagement was necessary to address the ongoing tensions.

Lavrov and Araghchi also discussed the implementation of bilateral agreements reached during the meeting between the Russian and Iranian presidents in Bishkek on September 1, 2026.

The two sides reviewed progress on their bilateral agenda and discussed steps to advance previously agreed areas of cooperation.

The foreign ministers also reviewed the schedule of upcoming contacts between Russia and Iran at various levels.
