Pezeshkian Says UNGA Exposed US-Israeli Actions Against Iran

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said he used the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly to highlight what he described as unprecedented US and Israeli crimes against Iran and the wider West Asia region. Speaking after returning from New York, Pezeshkian rejected US President Donald Trump’s characterization of Iran as a “terrorist” state and accused Washington and Israel of supporting or carrying out assassinations while claiming to combat terrorism.

Pezeshkian said Trump’s remarks at the summit affected Tehran’s diplomatic calculations and prompted Iran to more forcefully defend its positions at the General Assembly. He also criticized the summit’s emphasis on rebuilding trust, arguing that countries that violate international law cannot credibly call for greater trust. His comments reflected Tehran’s broader criticism of what it considers inconsistent Western approaches to international law and regional security.

On negotiations, Pezeshkian said Iran remains willing to engage in dialogue but questioned whether agreements reached with Western powers would be honored. He said Tehran participates in negotiations to demonstrate that it does not fear diplomacy or seek instability, while arguing that the United States and Israel have contributed significantly to regional tensions. Pezeshkian stressed that Iran’s participation in dialogue should not be interpreted as acceptance of pressure or coercion.
