Indian Journalist Questions Modi Government’s Policies in IIOJK, Raises RSS Influence

Senior Indian journalist Ajai Shukla has criticised the Narendra Modi government over its policies in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and raised questions about the influence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Indian state institutions.

Speaking during a programme, Shukla criticised what he described as the Modi government’s use of issues involving Pakistan and Hindu-Muslim tensions for electoral politics.

He also questioned the government’s failure to fulfil its earlier political commitments concerning Jammu and Kashmir.

Questions Over State Institutions

Shukla said the RSS had gained significant influence over India’s political and institutional system.

He alleged that India’s judiciary, educational institutions and military had increasingly come under the influence of the RSS.

Kashmir Special Status

Shukla also criticised the Modi government over its handling of Jammu and Kashmir, saying commitments made regarding the territory’s political and constitutional status had not been fulfilled.

He argued that there was a gap between statements made by the government and subsequent policy actions.

The debate over Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional status remains a major political issue, with India’s central government and regional political parties continuing to hold different positions.
