PM suspends PASSCO’s GM procurement, MD
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif suspended the managing director and general manager procurement of PASSCO for their negligence in wheat procurement process.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on the demand, supply and purchase program of wheat in which Federal Minister of Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister of Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain and other relevant senior government officials participated.
The prime minister, during the meeting, inquired why a mobile application was not prepared for the process of purchasing wheat. The prime minister suspended the managing director and general manager procurement of PASSCO for not following the instructions regarding the use of technology in the wheat procurement process and for being negligent.
Shehbaz urged the use of technology and development of mobile phone application to make the wheat procurement process clean and transparent. He also directed to conduct a third party audit of PASCO’s stock.
The prime minister said that strong measures will be taken for the development and prosperity of farmers, adding the government is making all possible efforts regarding food security in the country.
He directed to ensure commodity insurance for economic security of farmers. PASSCO will purchase 400,000 metric tons of additional wheat in a transparent and efficient manner.
The prime minister warned in the meeting that the loss of the farmer will not be tolerated in any case while the PASCO centers and officers who are performing well will be selected and recognized at the government level.
