SC summons Vawda, Kamal in suo motu case
The Supreme Court of Pakistan is hearing of the suo motu notice case case against Senator Faisal Vawda.
A three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Irfan Saadat Khan and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan is hearing the case.
The Chief Justice asked for the details of Faisal Vawda and Mudtafa Kamal’s press conferences.
The top judge summoned Senator Faisal Vawda and MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal on June 5.
Later, the hearing was adjourned till June 5.
Earlier, the apex court took the notice after the independent senator blasted the IHC judges for their letter alleging interference by agencies in court. Vawda said that targeting of institutions should be stopped. He added that enough is enough the practice of targeting should be stopped.
Vawda said that if there is any interference, then the judges should provide evidence and we will stand together.
About the accusations by the IHC judges, the former federal minister said that the names of agencies was being mentioned again and again. Vawda said that give evidence and we all will stand beside you.
Yesterday, the Islamabad High Court had replied to a letter penned by Senator Faisal Vawda to its registrar seeking disclosure of the correspondence between Justice Babar Sattar and then-IHC CJ Athar Minallah about the former’s green card.
The IHC registrar said: “The information sought by the high court from lawyers being considered for elevation/appointment as judge does not include information regarding residency and/or citizenship of any country other than Pakistan.”
He added, in the reply on behalf of IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, that such residency/citizenship is not a disqualification for a judge under the country’s Constitution.
Senator Vawda’s letter, sent to the IHC on April 30, had referred to the campaign on the social media against Justice Babar Sattar accusing him of holding a nationality of the United States and having a business interest in a private school in the country.
