ECP to implement SC’s order on reserved seats

The Election Commission of Pakistan on Friday express willingness to implement on the Supreme Court’s order in the reserved seats case.
In a lengthy statement issued after a meeting, ECP said that its’ legal team has been instructed to remove all possible hurdles in the implementation of the SC’s decision.
Earlier this week, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf draw a major legal victory against the government in the reserve seats case.
The court ruled that PTI was and is a political party that won general seats in the national and provincial assemblies in the February 8 elections, thus, is entitled to reserved seats.
The apex court also set aside the Peshawar High Court’s judgement of March 25 and declared the ECP order of March 1 to be ultra vires the Constitution, without lawful authority and of no legal effect.
The electoral body said that the 39 MNAs that were considered to be part of PTI by the SC had submitted an affiliation as part of their nomination papers.
The statement added that returning officers had no way to affirm if 41 independent MNAs were affiliated with PTI
