End of an era: Shoaib Malik retires from international cricket

25 July, 2024 23:09

Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik has announced his retirement from international cricket, stating he has “no interest” in playing for Pakistan again.

Malik, who has already retired from Tests and ODIs, will also quit T20 internationals.

“I have no interest but as I said in my previous interviews I will announce my retirement from all forms of cricket once and for all,” he said.

In an interview, Malik expressed satisfaction with his 25-year career, playing 35 Tests, 287 ODIs, and 124 T20Is. He scored over 11,000 runs and took 218 wickets.

Malik suggested Babar Azam should step down as white-ball captain and focus on batting. “He can do wonders for the team as a player,” Malik said.

Shoaib Malik further said that he will continue playing league cricket, enjoying his time and availing opportunities.

Malik is the second-highest T20 run-scorer with 13,360 runs, behind Chris Gayle.
