Iran passes new Hijab law with strict penalties

The Iranian Parliament has passed new “Hijab and Chastity Bill”, local media report Wednesday.

The new rule made wearing hijab mandatory for women, with strict penalties for non-compliance.

According to report, women improperly wearing the hijab or not wearing it at all in public or on social media may face fines equivalent to 20 months’ salary.

Moreover, they are bound to pay the fine within 10 days. In case they fail, it would result in restrictions on public services such as passport renewal and driver’s license issuance.

To implement the new hijab law, institutions are instructed to assist authorities by providing CCTV footage to identify violators.
