Disposable electronic cigarettes to be banned from Jan 1

30 December, 2024 23:26

Belgium’s health minister has said that his country has decided to ban the sale of disposable electronic cigarettes from January 1.

According to the report of the international news agency, Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroek said that cheap e-cigarettes are a serious health risk as they are an easy way to attract young people to smoking and nicotine.

The health minister said during an interview that disposable electronic cigarettes are a new product designed only to attract new users.

He further said that electronic cigarettes often contain nicotine, which makes you addicted. It is destructive to your health, he added.

Vandenbroek said that because e-cigarettes are disposable, the plastics, batteries and circuits are a burden on the environment, not only because they create dangerous chemicals that are still there when people throw them away.

He added that this year, Australia became the first country in the world to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes, also known as vape. He said now Belgium is leading Europe in this ban.

“We are the first country in Europe to take this decision, we are calling on the European Commission to move forward with new measures to update and modernize tobacco law,” Vandenbroek said.
