Biden rejects Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s mercy petition

Former US president Joe Biden has rejected the mercy appeal of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who is imprisoned in the American jail, and the Islamabad High Court has also been informed about this development.

Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan of Islamabad High Court heard plea on Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release from the US prison and repatriation, during which Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui and her American lawyer Clive Smith appeared in the court through video link while the petitioner’s lawyer Imran Shafiq and Additional Attorney General also appeared in the court.

During the hearing, the court was informed that former US president Joe Biden rejected Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s appeal for mercy. The US has rejected the agreement with Pakistan to release the prisoners.

Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq remarked that the US is showing us our status. The former US president pardoned his son’s sentence but did not release our prisoner.

The report containing the details of the foreign visits of the prime minister and the foreign minister was presented in the court. A reply was also submitted to the court about the Pakistani ambassador to the US for not attending the meetings related to Dr. Aafia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs submitted the report containing the answers to the judicial questions in the court.
