Karachi college official flees after allegedly misappropriating Rs 900,000

01 February, 2025 20:15

A superintendent at a government college in Karachi is on the run after allegedly misappropriating more than Rs 900,000 in examination fees collected from students.

The funds were gathered from 81 female students at the Government Degree College for Women in Nazimabad to cover the cost of their upcoming exams.

According to an FIR filed by College Principal Shehla Bashir at the Rizvia police station, the superintendent, who was responsible for collecting the fees, failed to deposit the money into the bank as required.

Instead, the official reportedly kept the funds and disappeared.

The principal stated that the superintendent has not been seen at the college since January 25 and was the sole person handling the cash. Police are currently working to track him down.

Meanwhile, students—some of whom were scheduled to take exams as early as Saturday—are facing difficulties.

One student explained that despite paying the fees, she had not received her admit card.

However, the college dean assured that most admit cards had been distributed with the help of board management, and the remaining cards would be given out soon.

Authorities continue their investigation into the matter, and efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing official.
