The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on February 28, 2025, to sight the Ramzan moon. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its prediction regarding the sighting.
According to the PMD, the new moon of Ramzan 1446 AH will be born at 5:45 PM (PST) on February 28. However, based on astronomical parameters, there is no chance of sighting the moon on the evening of February 28, which corresponds to the 29th of Shaban.
The Met Office further stated that the weather is expected to be partly cloudy or fair in most parts of the country on that day, which might affect visibility.
When Will the First Roza Be Observed?
As per the Met Office prediction, Shaban will last for 30 days, and the holy month of Ramzan will begin on March 2. This means the first Roza in Pakistan will be observed on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
Significance of Ramzan
Ramzan is the ninth and holiest month in the Islamic calendar. It is observed with deep religious devotion by Muslims around the world. During this sacred month, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, refraining from eating and drinking during daylight hours.
In addition to fasting, believers offer special prayers known as Tarawih and host Iftar gatherings with family and friends. The holy Quran was also revealed during this month, making it even more significant.
In Pakistan, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is responsible for announcing the start of Islamic months, including Ramzan. The committee consists of religious scholars from different schools of thought who make the final decision based on moon sighting.
