UAE residents must register newborn’s birth certificate and Emirates ID

18 February, 2025 12:22

Foreign nationals, including Pakistanis, living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are required to obtain their newborn child’s birth certificate and Emirates ID within a specified time frame to avoid fines and complications.

In line with UAE regulations, residents must register the birth of their child within 30 days. If the parents are from different countries, the child will automatically adopt the nationality of the father.

Documents Needed for Birth Certificate Application

To apply for the birth certificate, parents must submit several documents to the hospital where the baby is born or the relevant health authority in the emirate. These include:

  • An attested Arabic translation of the marriage certificate (if not already in Arabic)
  • Copies and originals of both parents’ passports and residence visas
  • Birth notification from the hospital
  • Discharge summary from the hospital

Once the birth certificate is issued, expatriates must have it attested by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Birth certificates from the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) or the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) are considered equivalent to the Ministry’s seal.

Emirates ID and Residence Visa for Newborns

UAE residents must also apply for the Emirates ID and residence visa for their newborn child within 120 days of birth.

Failing to do so will incur a penalty of AED 100 per day for each day the application is delayed beyond the 120-day period.

Additionally, the newborn will not be allowed to exit the country until the necessary documents are finalized.

Parents are advised to complete these procedures within the given time frame to ensure a smooth process and avoid any additional charges.
