Vaccine developed to prevent stroke and heart attack

Scientists in China have developed a vaccine capable of preventing material from accumulating in blood vessels.
This accumulation in the arteries can cause blood clots, stroke and heart attack.
Accumulation of fat in the arteries (known as atherosclerosis, an inflammatory disease) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide.
Arteries hardened by inflammation can obstruct blood flow and result in a stroke, aneurysm, or heart attack.
Scientists have long believed that vaccination can prevent the disease.
Now a new study published in the journal Nature Communications has described a vaccine that can eliminate atherosclerosis in mice.
Chen Nanjing University of Science and Technology scientists wrote in the paper that their nanovaccine design and preclinical data present the potential for protective treatment of atherosclerosis.
