UK to decide fate of Pakistani airlines ban tomorrow
The UK’s Air Safety Committee will convene on March 20 to review the five-year ban imposed on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other Pakistani carriers, sources confirmed.
The ban, enforced in July 2020, followed the fake pilot licence scandal, which raised serious concerns about aviation safety standards in Pakistan.
As a result, Pakistani airlines were barred from operating in the UK and Europe.
Officials from Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) are hopeful for a favorable outcome.
“With the recent resumption of flights to Europe, we expect the UK will also approve the restoration of Pakistani airlines,” a CAA official stated.
The suspension, initially imposed by European and British regulators, severely impacted Pakistan’s aviation sector, restricting direct flights to key destinations.
If the committee decides to lift the restrictions, Pakistani airlines may soon regain access to British airports, marking a significant step toward restoring international flight operations.
