Journalist Farhan Mallick handed over to FIA on physical remand

Farhan Mallick, the founder of the digital media platform Raftar, has been remanded into the FIA custody for four days of physical remand.
During hearing by Judicial Magistrate (East) court today, Farhan Mallick’s lawyer contended that inquiries regarding the journalist were already underway. He pointed out that the Sindh High Court had previously issued directives barring legal action against the journalist. He argued that despite these orders, the FIA chose to proceed with the case.
Yesterday, the FIA had detained Farhan Mallick over alleged violations of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) and accusations of defamation.
According to the FIR, Mallick is accused of sharing content deemed anti-state.
He was a director news for a private television channel and currently manages his own YouTube channel.
The FIR states that according to initial analysis of the YouTube channel Mallick is allegedly involved in producing and distributing posts and videos containing false information and a public incitement agenda.
It further alleges that the journalist consistently uploaded such content that has reportedly harmed the reputation of public institutions internationally.
