Transporters Increase Fares Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr 2025
With Eid-ul-Fitr approaching, thousands of travelers are leaving Karachi for their hometowns, causing a surge in demand for transport. However, passengers are facing severe difficulties as transporters have significantly increased fares, making travel more expensive and stressful.
Major bus terminals and railway stations in Karachi are overcrowded, with people struggling to find tickets. Many transport operators are taking advantage of the situation by charging higher fares. Reports indicate that ticket prices, which were previously Rs. 1,500, have now surged to Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 3,000.
In some cases, transporters are deliberately keeping buses off the terminals to create an artificial shortage, forcing passengers to pay inflated prices. Due to the lack of available seats, some travelers are resorting to sitting on bus rooftops, a dangerous practice that increases the risk of accidents.
Passengers have voiced their frustration, stating that this fare hike happens every year before Eid, yet authorities fail to take effective action. Many have urged the Sindh Chief Minister and Transport Minister to step in and regulate fares to prevent further exploitation.
Meanwhile, transport operators deny any unfair pricing, claiming that the fare adjustments are based on rising fuel prices and operational costs. They insist that the increases remain within government-approved limits.
