Mumbai to Dubai underwater train idea goes viral

Have you ever imagine taking a high-speed train under the sea to reach Dubai from from Mumbai in just a few hours? 

The idea sounds like something from a science fiction film. However, this underwater train concept is being explored now.

The unique idea of an underwater train route from Dubai to Mumbai was first proposed in 2018.

Recently, Indian media has picked up the story again. However, the important point to remember is that this project is still in its conceptual phase. It is better explained by National Advisor Bureau Limited Managing Director Abdulla Al Shehhi.

Although, the idea has caught the attention of public, it’s still far from being a completed plan, said Al Shehhi.

He said the plan is still being studied to understand if it’s really possible.

The official further said that the feasibility study is important, as it will consider various factors like the cost, environment, and the technology needed.

He said that constructing an underwater train is not a small task.

The idea behind the underwater train is to enhance trade between India and the UAE.

Al Shehhi said that the rail  could benefit a huge population. It will be able to connect over 1.5 billion people in the Indian subcontinent and Gulf.

The train can transport goods, like oil from the gulf state to India.

He said that the underwater train would use maglev technology that uses powerful magnets to lift the train above the tracks and allow it to travel at speeds of up to 1,000 km/h.

The train would travel through concrete tunnels, which would be 20 to 30 meters underwater.
