Punjab Heatwave Alert Issued – Public Advised to Take Precautions

09 April, 2025 15:48

LAHORE – The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for April 2025, warning that temperatures across Central and South Punjab are expected to be 4 to 7°C higher than normal this month.

According to the alert, the plains and southern areas of the province may face extremely hot weather throughout April.

Public Advisory from Punjab Minister

In response to the warning, Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb shared important safety tips to help people stay protected during the heatwave.

Avoid Going Out Between 11 AM to 4 PM

She urged the public to avoid going outside unnecessarily, especially between 11 AM and 4 PM, when the sun is at its peak. People are advised to stay hydrated, keep a water bottle while traveling, and use an umbrella or hat to protect themselves from the direct sun.

She also stressed that:

  • Laborers should work in shaded areas during the daytime.

  • Schools and colleges should inform students on how to stay safe in the heat and consider reducing morning assembly time.

Hospitals on Alert

The Punjab government has directed the Health Department to set up heatstroke help desks in hospitals. All medical staff have been asked to stay prepared in case of any emergency.

These steps aim to protect the public, especially children and the elderly, from the serious effects of the rising temperatures.
