US Congressional delegation meets COAS, discuss strategic cooperation

A delegation from the United States Congress, led by Honourable Jack Bergman, Honourable Thomas Souzzi, and Honourable Jonathan Jackson, met with General Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on Sunday.

During the meeting, participants discussed a variety of issues of mutual interest, with a focus on regional security and defense cooperation. Both sides emphasized the necessity of ongoing engagement based on mutual respect, similar values, and common strategic goals.

The visiting US legislators praised the Pakistan Armed Forces for their critical role in battling terrorism and recognized Pakistan’s long-standing contributions to regional peace and stability. They also praised Pakistan’s resilience and strategic potential.

Underscoring their respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty, the U.S. Congressional delegation conveyed a strong commitment to advancing broad-based bilateral cooperation, particularly in the domains of security, trade, investment, and economic development.

General Syed Asim Munir conveyed his appreciation to the delegation for their visit and reiterated Pakistan’s desire to further deepen and diversify its longstanding partnership with the United States in a manner that is mutually beneficial and respectful of each other’s national interests.

During the meeting, MoUs were signed for training partnership in the field of information technology.
