Heatwave Alert: PMD Predicts High Temperatures Till April 18 Across Several Regions in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Intense heatwave conditions have taken hold across Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several other regions of Pakistan, with the sweltering spell expected to last until Friday, April 18, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The weather experts attribute this surge in temperature to a high-pressure system that has settled over the upper atmosphere of the country. As a result, unusually hot and dry conditions have developed in most areas, and the heatwave is likely to persist throughout the week in Pakistan.

Temperature Forecast

• In the southern regions of the country—including Sindh, South Punjab, and Balochistan—daytime temperatures are expected to rise 6°C to 8°C above the seasonal average.

• In the northern and central areas such as Islamabad, Central and Upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, temperatures may exceed normal levels by 4°C to 6°C.

In the federal capital Islamabad, temperatures are forecasted to hover between 34°C and 36°C on Tuesday and Wednesday. A similar range is expected in Rawalpindi, where the mercury is also set to reach 34°C to 36°C over the same period.

Current Conditions and Hottest Locations

For the last 24 hours, hot and dry weather conditions prevailed over the twin cities and the bulk of the country. Among the hottest places Dadu topped the charts, recording 46°C, with the second-highest honor going to Shaheed Benazirabad at 45°C.

Islamabad saw a maximum temperature of 35°C; Rawalpindi noted 33°C. A notable fact is that the morning humidity of both cities remained at zero percent, aggravating the dry and uncomfortable weather.
