Justice Mansoor Ali Shah Takes Oath as Pakistan’s New Acting Chief Justice

Senior Supreme Court judge, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, has officially taken the oath as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan.

The oath was administered by Justice Munib Akhtar in a ceremony held at the Supreme Court, attended by judges, the Attorney General, senior lawyers, and judicial staff.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s appointment comes as Chief Justice of Pakistan, Yahya Afridi, is scheduled for an official visit to China from April 22 to 26. During this period, Justice Shah will take over the responsibilities as Acting Chief Justice.

The Supreme Court has announced that the high-level delegation, led by Chief Justice Afridi, will represent Pakistan at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Chief Justices Conference in China. Along with the Chief Justice, the delegation includes Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Shahid Waheed, District and Sessions Judge Gwadar Zafar Jan, and Senior Civil Judge Lakki Marwat Nadia Gul Wazir.

During this visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Supreme Court of China is expected to be signed. Additionally, Chief Justice Afridi plans to meet with his Iranian counterpart during the conference. Justice Shahid Waheed will also speak at a session on the use of artificial intelligence in the judiciary.

After the conference, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will travel to Turkey for the 63rd anniversary celebrations of the Constitutional Court. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will continue in his role as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan during this period.
