Rashid Latif opens up on captaincy coup, fixing in 1990s

Rashid Latif on captaincy coup 1990s
Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif has revealed the details of the 1990 mutiny against the captain and match-fixing.
Rashid Latif said that during the 1990s, some players were not performing in the Test matches against Zimbabwe and there was a possibility of their being dropped, after which Aqib Javed and Javed Miandad were dropped. Aqib Javed was very close to Waqar Younis and Mushtaq.
After that, I was told by a blocker from Islamabad that there was going to be a unilateral revolt against the captain and when I reached there, there were also players in the room who were not part of the team at that time. I knew this was going to go wrong and there were big players in the room at that time.
According to the former cricketer, at that time everyone was thinking of making Waqar Younis the captain, but after this coup, the board made Saleem Malik the captain, after which Saleem Malik remained the most successful captain in the history of Pakistan.
He further said that what happened to the Pakistani team in the past is something that current cricketers cannot tolerate.
Rashid Latif, while talking about match-fixing in Pakistan, said that powerful players in Pakistan are not punished, which is why they spread in society. These powerful players have political connections, under which the government of the time protects these players.
Furthermore, he further said that Justice Qayyum had said in his inquiry report in 2010 that if an inquiry had been conducted on my report, all this would not have happened today. There is a culture of likes and dislikes in Pakistan, players have relationships from which they escaped. Justice Qayyum had given suggestions in his report, which said that these people should not be brought back to the board, but here these same people are made captains again.
