Pakistan Wins Gold in Its Category at World Chess Olympiad 2026

SAMARKAND: Pakistan’s chess team has won the gold medal in Category D at the World Chess Olympiad 2026 held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The Pakistan Open team secured first position in its category, recording 12 match points and 162 game points during the competition.

Pakistan drew its matches against Egypt and Yemen, while it suffered defeats against Colombia and South Africa.

Despite those results, the Pakistani team finished at the top of its category, improving its position by 29 places in the overall competition.

Chess Federation Welcomes Achievement

President of the Chess Federation of Pakistan Zeeshan Naqvi attended the closing ceremony of the Olympiad.

Naqvi said greater government support could help Pakistan achieve further success in chess and provide more opportunities for players to compete at the international level.

The achievement marks an important result for Pakistan’s chess team at the international event and highlights the country’s growing participation in global chess competitions.
