NADRA Announces New Fee for Non-Chip ID Cards

01 May, 2025 19:47

In a significant move to boost digital inclusion, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has revised the fee structure for non-chip national identity cards and introduced new digital features, making it easier for millions of citizens to access smart services without needing to upgrade to chip-based cards.

Previously, citizens were required to switch to the Smart National Identity Card (SNIC) to benefit from advanced functionalities. However, the latest NADRA update allows holders of non-chip CNICs to renew, modify, or reapply for their cards while staying within the same non-chip category—removing the compulsion to transition to a chip-based format.

The upgraded non-chip ID cards will now come with bilingual text in Urdu and English, a colored photo for better identification, and a QR code that links to a digital ID accessible through the Pak-ID mobile app. These enhancements bring the traditional ID card closer to digital standards, bridging the accessibility gap for the wider population.

In a socially conscious move, the new cards will also feature distinct symbols to identify organ donors and individuals with disabilities, improving their recognition in emergencies and access to specialized services.

Updated NADRA CNIC Fees for 2025:

  • Normal: Rs. 400
  • Urgent: Rs. 1,150
  • Executive: Rs. 2,150

This development is being hailed as a people-first initiative, aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s digital infrastructure while ensuring convenience and inclusion for all citizens.
